Biology

Rare resident on the migrations and wintering occurs widely but is rare overall. Inhabits the deciduous forests, gardens (apple, cherry-plum, walnut) and vineyards near the villages. On migration occurs in riparian forests, shelterbelts, groves and gardens. In Altai fledgling with female were recorded in May 31, 1970. Autumn migration of birds of nominate subspecies (singly or in small flocks) begins in second half of August, but in some years in September or even in October. In spring migrates in March - April, latest birds were observed in April - May (in Almaty in May 18, 1962). In end of April birds of subspecies humii observed in pairs. Female begins to lay eggs in second half of May. Juvenile was shot in August 18, the moulting bird was collect in October. No other data.
